May 18 - Saturday -Wild Food and Herb Class by Stephen Hoog at the Josie Porter Farm from 10 am to 2 pm. We will identify a wide range of plants both on and from the off the property that are usable. Among the plants will be dandelion, elecampane, sassafras, milkweed, Japanese knotweed, mulberry, pokeweed and chickweed. We will explore a variety of characteristics of each one including: the nutrient properties of most; the energetic properties based on oriental and macrobiotic medicine; what the plants tell us about the soil; and what part a plant plays in an ecosystem or a wild garden. Recipes for certain food will be provided and numerous beverages for tasting will be available. This class will be topped off with a healthy vegetarian lunch with wild foods in each dish. Stephen is a macrobiotic counselor and cook. He performs and has taught classes in Shiatsu, Cranio Sacral and Lymphatic Drainage as well as Wild Food Walks in numerous locations. May 26- CSA Meet & Greet Potluck Picnic at the Farm - 2 pm- 6 pm Meet other CSA members and their families, tour the farm, visit with Farmer Heidi and Gary and meet the farm crew...see how your CSA distribution will work, visit the Buying Club, and learn about everything that the farm can offer you and your family. Games, tours, new friends, great food...Bring a favorite dish to share! The farm will provide beverages.
June 8 - Stargazing Program with Rich Grebb. Back by popular demand, Rich will lead us on an incredible journey of the celestial sky. Please arrive on time, as the Star Chart interpretation & discussion will begin at 8:00 in the parking area followed by a walk up the hill to the telescope. Telescopic viewing will run from twilight until approximately 10:30 pm.
This
program will include telescopic views & descriptions of Saturn, its moons
& rings, the Hercules star cluster, the Summer Triangle with stars Vega,
Deneb, & Altair, the Dippers and Cassiopeia. Rising later will be Scorpio
with bright star Antares, and Sagittarius, all sure signs of the summer season! Bring a blanket or chair, wear sturdy shoes and bring warm clothes as it does get cool at night on the farm. Suggested Donation: $3 for CSA Members, $5 Non-members, $2 children under 12. Monies collected will be used to support agricultural education programs at the Josie Porter Farm.

July 8-12 - Josie Porter Farm Enrichment Day Camp for Kids - 10-15 years old - Get a first hand experience on the farm and find out what it takes to grow your own organic food! Be a part of the Josie Porter Farm team for a week and learn from our crew! Explore the farm, composting, planting, harvesting and more...10:00 am to 3:00 pm every day from July 8 to July 12. Cost is $150. Participants bring their own work gloves and lunch. Snacks from the farm and water will be provided.
